True Colors: Kids Art Ideas

Every summer, our nieces and nephew from Eagle Rock [L.A] come up for a few weeks of San Francisco family fun. Before T was born, we would indulge the kiddos in movies, late dinners, amusement parks, and LOTS of ice cream. Now that T is here, 2, and VERY obsessed with his cousins, we had to recalibrate our summer fun a bit.

True Colors Summer Art Projects for Kids

SandcastlesSurfing instead of Amusement Parks. Sidewalk Chalk Art + Breakfast Sandwiches and Shark Cookies dethroned the late night diners. We still do ice cream (T loves strawberry milkshakes) and the movies, but T hangs back with Grandma.

The Sidewalk Chalk Art was a major game changer for our little dude. He has amassed oodles of daycare art since he was a peanut (finger paint, collages, watercolors, stamp art, etc.) but at home, the crayon and markers don’t really rock his world. And I’d love to be one of those whimsical, DIY super mamas, but i’m not. And that’s ok! I’m a musical, dance super mama. And I’ll own that title any day.

Since T loves all things street art, we’ve added a few more rad kids art ideas to our weekends. For the ambitious DIYer to the on-the-go working mamas, these kids art ideas are affordable, super easy, and supremely fun.

I love sidewalk chalk for kids! Such a great activity that keeps them busy and builds those important fine motor skills. We love hopscotch too. So awesome!

My 4 year old LOVES art. One of his favorite things to do is paint cotton balls, and then glue them on paper once the paint dries. He makes some cool art. 🙂

Chalk is so fun – my daughter has always been a fan of anything outdoors and I love getting her outside to play stuff like hopscotch and 4 squares! If it’s a rainy day in Florida, then she’ll opt to paint in her room instead. We definitely pride ourselves in being pretty crafty!

I love the tint in your photos by the way!
