It’s safe to say that Valentine’s Day will be spent at home this year, but to be honest, I’d rather it be this way. What’s better than spending time at home with the ones we love most, heart shaped box of dark chocolates and bubbly for dessert, curled up on the couch with a sweet lineup of the best love stories? While I’ll miss going out for a nice dinner date, we get to enjoy Valentine’s Day as a whole family, which feels just as special. I put together this ultimate list of romantic Valentine’s Day movies to watch, and hope you find a few of your favorites here and some new ones to add to your lineup. We’re definitely watching UP this year with the kids, but we’ll definitely be throwing on one of the extra romantic ones after T and O are asleep. Who knows! Until then, here are my top picks for romance movies to watch this Valentine’s Day at home. Grab some popcorn, set up a love themed at home movie party, pop the bubbly, and feel all the Valentine’s Day vibes with the ones we love most.
Best Valentine’s Day Movies
Pretty In Pink
Pretty In Pink came out in 1986 and continues to be one of my favorite romances of all time. This 80’s classic tells the story of a vintage loving, aspiring fashion designer teenage girl from the other side of the tracks who falls in love with the quiet (and cute) rich kid while her best friend professes his love for her daily. Also one of the most awesome 80’s movie soundtracks, this love story is one for the ages.
This is another 80’s cult classic, and a must watch Valentine’s Day movie. A charming love story between two very different high school teens, set to another epic soundtrack, who doesn’t fall in love with these two? The real question is… will Lloyd get Diane’s father’s approval? I guess you’ll have to watch to find out.
Before Sunrise is such a beautiful story sharing how one decision could change your life. Jesse and Celine meet fatefully on a train and begin this amazing adventure called love together. I love this classic and definitely feel all the feels.
Poetic Justice focuses on Justice (Janet Jackson) a hairdresser who uses poetry as an artform and a grieving tool to help get her through the loss of her boyfriend. The story shows Justice’s struggles, but shares how that one person can have the power to lift your spirits again.
Crazy Rich Asians
Yes for this epic Asian love story! After dating for over a year, Nick finally decides to introduce Rachel to his entire family in Singapore while they’re there for his best friend’s wedding. Full of all sorts of unbelievable antics and obstacles, watch Rachel prove herself to Nick’s family and define her meaning of love along the way.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
This comedy has me laughing out loud every time I watch, plus it’s an awesome cast! Forgetting Sarah Marshall is about a struggling musician, Peter, who tries everything to get over his TV sensation girlfriend, Sarah Marshall, only to end up at the same hotel with her and her new man on vacation. Fun fact: this resort is where me and the hubs got married!
I think we can all agree that Grease is watchable during all times of the year, but I’ll take any excuse to watch it again! This movie never fails to make me want to get up and dance, sing, laugh, and cry, so I knew I needed to include it in this list. Danny and Sandy forever! 10/10 in my book!
A Star Is Born
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper made movie magic with this film. Every time I watch this movie, I can’t take my eyes off the screen. It’s a raw, beautiful story between two broken souls coming together through music, only to face more obstacles together and struggles that threaten to pull them apart. The music is magic with lyrics that narrate this epic love story. This is definitely a grown ups only movie, so save this one until the kids go to bed.
50 First Dates
This one is such a sweet story about a man named Henry who falls in love with a beautiful woman who happens to suffer from short-term memory loss. Watch Lucy fall in love with Henry over and over and over again, in this funny and timeless love story.
Audrey Hepburn is a queen in my book, but in Roman Holiday, a princess will have to do. Audrey plays a European Princess named Ann who just wants a night off from royalty. She falls asleep on a park bench and meets someone special who may or may not be the one for her.
Ah, Emma and Dexter. This is one of my all time romantic movies that makes us root for two amazing people to have that happy every after. One Day is about two lifelong friends who reunite on the same day every year, as their love for each other carries them through life as best friends…and maybe more?
We’ve all watched this iconic romantic Valentine’s Day movie a million times, and it continues to be one of my favorite love stories of all time. Noah and Allie show us that the power of love can withstand every challenge – family, money, war, and time – when soul mates find their way to each other.
This is a cute and hilarious story of a super successful and extra handsome guy (Ryan Reynolds) who blossomed after his embarrassing high school years, only to come home and face reality — his beautiful best friend who always thought of him as just friends. Just Friends is a mega funny and romantic movie than never gets old.
Notting Hill is a timeless love story set in London with the theme of “fame & fate.” This movie follows a famous American actress and an adorably awkward British bookshop owner as they secretly go on dates and try to live a normal life while falling in love, until reality kicks in and the world finds out. One of my all time favorite love stories, if you haven’t watched Notting Hill yet, do it.
Amelie is a 2001 French film about a young, curious, dreamy waitress living in Paris. Life takes her on an unexpected, whimsical adventure as she helps her family, friends, and strangers find joy and love.
The Princess Bride
“As you wish.” Sigh. The Princess Bride is the ultimate fairytale love story between a young girl and her one true love. It gives me all the fairytale vibes (the costume design is amazing!), has unforgettable moments that make us laugh and swoon, and is always on my watch list every Valentine’s Day.
Coming to America
Every time I see this movie on TV I need to watch it. This has me laughing through the entire film! Eddie Murphy plays a rich African Prince who goes on an undercover trip to find a wife in Queens, New York. You’ll definitely want to watch this one if you haven’t already seen it.
Bridget Jones’s Diary
While changing her life for the better and looking for that great forever love, Bridget Jones keeps a diary to keep herself accountable and take control of her own path in life. This movie kind of has a little bit of everything and full of ridiculous, super funny adventures.
The Best Man
The Best Man is about a young writer who agrees to being the best man in his friend’s wedding. Things are going well, only to take some unexpected twists and turns closer to the big wedding day.
This is our family Valentine’s Day movie choice this year and I can’t wait for our little family to snuggle up together and watch. While the movie follows Mr. Fredricksen’s balloon adventure to Paradise Falls, it also tells a beautiful story of love between Carl and his wife. I love everything about this movie (and ugly cry every time) and the kids love it just as much, too.
