Fall is a magical time of the year. The air feels crisp, the leaves turn gold, and the holiday season begins. One of my favorite things to do in autumn is pumpkin picking with my family. My kids love hands on activities, so this annual day trip is always a hit. What you may not know, though, is that pumpkins aren’t just for painting, carving, and digging for seeds. Pumpkin benefits our bodies inside and out. There are numerous health benefits from pumpkins, and while they are seasonal, you can purchase pumpkin products all year long.
Adding pumpkin to your diet or your skin is a super simple transition and will definitely allow you to reap the benefits. You can include things like pumpkin puree into chilis, soups, casseroles, or even bake it into bread. Pumpkin bread is next on my list! I’ve also seen and purchased lots of pumpkin products on the market that have honestly been working wonders on my skin.

Pumpkins can help to lower blood pressure and reduce inflammation, which lowers the risk of heart disease. My family has a long history of heart disease, so pumpkin is something I turn to regularly to keep my own heart healthy and strong. Try different recipes or products with pumpkin to add to your weekly meal intake to promote healthy hearts.

Pumpkin has a lot of fiber that helps to make us feel full, which can help us avoid consuming unhealthy portions of foods (I call this “food grazing”). They’re also super low in calories — A cup of cooked pumpkin is only about 50 calories.
Pumpkin Reduces Risk of Diabetes
Did you know pumpkin has been shown to reduce glucose levels in blood and increase the amount of insulin our bodies produce? This is such a great benefit of pumpkin, especially for those who are concerned about developing diabetes or already have it.
Pumpkin Fights Against Cancers
A fun fact about pumpkins is that they’re super high in carotenoids, which are used to get rid of free radicals from our bodies. Eating foods that contain large amounts of carotenoids are great for lowering risk of cancers including lung and prostate cancer.

Pumpkin contains nutrients like vitamins A, C, and E, which are fantastic for promoting healthy skin. If you’re looking to improve or maintain your skin health, try using products with pumpkin to help protect your skin from sun damage and increase collagen.

Pumpkin Boosts Immune System
Pumpkin is packed with the recommended daily amounts of vitamin C, which is great for keeping your immune system strong. Vitamin C also can help you recover faster from colds and can help to heal any infections you may have.
Pumpkin Improves Mood
If I’m being honest, my favorite part about pumpkins is eating the seeds, which is great because the seeds have been shown to boost mood. Well, not the seeds, but the magnesium source in the seeds. I need all the mood boosts I can get these days, so give me all the pumpkin seeds!
