8 Powerful Skin Health Benefits of Seaweed

Today I want to share how seaweed is one of the most amazing organisms in the world and benefits our skin like no other. Seaweed is super rich in nutrients that are not only beneficial to our bodies, but also for our skin. There are fantastic skin restoring benefits that seaweed has to offer. I’ve loved discovering new products and new health benefits to encourage my love of using seaweed in my skincare routine. I’ve often heard of seaweed being referred to as a magical plant because it helps to improve our overall health, energy levels, and skin complexion. It’s all around a magical ingredient in skincare products, so let’s dive into some powerful health benefits of seaweed.

8 Powerful Skin Health Benefits of Seaweed

Purifying & Detoxifying

Seaweed has been shown to be a great treatment of acne due to it being so high in antibacterial properties. When we apply seaweed topically, like using a moisturizer or mask, it helps to remove any impurities and toxins on our skin! I love using a seaweed mask once or twice a week to keep up with the anti-acne solutions while also maintaining healthy looking skin.

Anti-aging effects

Seaweed is incredibly potent with antioxidants and has a lot of cell rejuvenation properties, making it so great for anti-aging. Seaweed is packed with skin healing nutrients that work together to make our skin look years younger. For skincare routines, I recommend using a seaweed serum – I am a loyal fan of Osea’s Hyaluronic Sea Serum – or moisturizing cream at night – I use Osea’s Atmosphere Protection Cream.

Brings life to your hair

I have found so much love for using seaweed as part of my hair care routine. Seaweed is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which help hair follicles get enough nutrients and improves blood circulation in the scalp, which means thriving, growing hair. Seaweed is often used to help nourish our hair and bring life back into it, so I definitely suggest incorporating a seaweed spray, serum, or even a shampoo to your hair routine.

Hydrates & nourishes dry skin

If you struggle with dry skin, especially in the winter months, try using seaweed! Seaweed boasts essential fatty acids that help maintain our skin’s barrier and it’s rich in polysaccharides like alginic acid, which help to lock moisture into our skin.

Improves uneven skin tones

Three of the minerals in seaweed (fluorine, magnesium, and calcium) all work together to help bring brightness and balance to our skin. If you’re noticing any blotchiness in your complexion or are looking to improve your skin tone, seaweed is a great option!

Firms and tightens

Give me allllll the skin firming products. I love testing out new products that are specifically for firming and tightening the skin because they help to make our faces look less plump or puffy. Seaweed has been shown to tighten the skin and fight against cellulite. The amino acids in seaweed, and seaweed products, work to help firm up your skin tissues when used regularly. Post bath or shower, I use Osea’s seaweed anti-aging body balm to help firm up my skin, smooth away cellulite, and nourish my body with only the good stuff.

Sensitive skin approved

Seaweed products are a fantastic skincare option for anyone struggling with sensitive or allergy prone skin. Because seaweed is so high in vitamins like B1 and B12, it’s especially good for reducing inflammation and protecting our skin from any irritation.

Rich in vitamins and minerals

Like I’ve mentioned above, seaweed is super rich in vitamins and minerals that help to improve our overall well being. Seaweed is rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, and K and contains minerals like magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron, and zinc. The amino acids, enzymes, and antioxidants in seaweed work together to restore the skin, making seaweed skincare a big yes from me.

Let me know of any products you use with seaweed in it! I’d love to hear how you incorporate seaweed into your day to day regimen.
