9 Benefits of Refrigerating Skincare

I have been refrigerating my skincare for years, even before skincare fridges recently became trendy! While it simply feels amazing to use a chilled jade roller on your face, refrigerating skincare products has real benefits as well. Although, it is important to research which products are best to refrigerate, because some are designed specifically for room temperature environments. Serums, Vitamin C, moisturizer creams, eye creams, sheet masks, essence and toners, crystal rollers, metal roller balls, naturally made products, and nail polish (yes, nail polish too!). Remember to not chill any clay products, makeup, or fragrances as they are all fans of room temperature and will do best in our cabinets.

9 Benefits of Refrigerating Skincare

Depuffing

My number one benefit of chilling my skincare is that it helps depuff my face! We’ve all had those days where we wake up and our skin decided to retain so much fluid, we look crazy! The cooling effect of my jade roller depuffs my face so quickly and makes me feel boujee!

Acne relief

Waking up with inflamed or acne covered skin is frustrating! The cooling sensation of chilled skincare relieves those issues! Plus, the temperature helps decrease the redness and size of those pesky pimples. The cooling effect makes sure the product doesn’t over-firm the skin, which can lead to itchy, uncomfortable skin.

Extended shelf life

If you have natural or food-grade ingredients in your skincare, you should be looking into refrigerating it. Generally, chilling your product can aid in the extension of its shelf life and allow you to get more bang for your buck. As always, research your product’s ingredients first.

Bacteria Prevention

Your skincare will benefit from refrigeration because the colder temperatures will aid in warding off bacteria that will eventually corrupt your product. Less bacteria in your skincare means less bacteria on your face! Plus, having a skincare fridge is much more sanitary than placing your products in the same location as our food.

Shrinks blood vessels

As we get older, our skin is constantly changing. When the blood vessels in our face are too large, our pores look bigger and our skin is much more red. The coolness of your product will help restrict and shrink your facial blood vessels to calm inflammation.

Lymphatic drainage

Toss your favorite Gua Sha stone in the fridge and watch how much the temperature helps with lymphatic drainage. The cold temperatures allow for your capillaries to constrict and for lymphatic drainage to begin! Plus, a cold facial massage is everything.

Better product absorption

When your product is chilled, there are chances of better absorption into the skin. Try it out with your favorite serum during your morning routine.

Prevents chipped nail polish

Putting your nail polish in the fridge might sound a bit strange, but stick with me on this one. Chilling your favorite polish is said to extend the true color, create a smoother application, and decreases the possibility of chipping! Remember to take your polish out of the fridge about 30 minutes before you plan on painting your nails to allow the polish to return to room temperature.

Refreshing morning routine

My final, and favorite, benefit of refrigerating my skincare is that it feels amazing! Waking up in the morning and taking time to get in a little self love is so important. That time is even better when I get to apply a refreshing serum on my clean face to wake me up.
