Last week, at Alt Summit’s 7th Annual Winter Event, hundreds of the most creative and stylish designers, makers, writers, photographers, and sponsors come together to inspire, learn, connect on shared issues and opportunities in our industries, and give back to our greater world in need. It was all kinds of awesome and I can’t wait to go back next year.
Packing for my first Alt was mildly daunting. What do these designers and bloggers and social media superstars with millions of followers wear to these events? And, since Alt is technically a conference, that means on your feet from 7am to 10pm or later, so those insanely gorgeous lace up 100mm heeled booties would destroy me in the end. No bueno.
I ended up bringing way to much stuff because sometimes a working mama of a 22 month-old toddler has only an hour to pack before a flight. But everything that ended up in the suitcase followed the same style rules: versatile, neutral (with shots of color/shine or graphics/print), layerable, comfy, and street chic.
I didn’t get to snap photos of me in my Alt Summit style, but I’ll be sharing what I wore, along with the value version of these looks. I thrive on flash, sample, ebay, and last-call sales to fulfill my love for all things designer. But the incredible thing about the world of fashion is if we look around enough, we’ll find fabulous, runway-inspired looks at a bargain price.
