Intention. Meditation. Gratitude. Affirmation. I’ve shared how my entire perspective on my day has shifted since I started each day with these 4 things. But I haven’t shared how ending my day has also improved my life in many good ways. Until tonight.
It’s easy for our brains to obsess over the things we *didn’t* do that day, the mistakes made, all the minuses. That usually leads to one of three things – restless sleep, nightmares, or insomnia. And the next day I begin with an empty tank, and it’s downhill from there.
Since I started morning meditation, I also started closing the day with a short but sweet meditation and bedtime affirmations that recognized the positives, released the negatives, and cleared my path for a new day of goodness. It goes a little something like this:
Nighttime Meditation & Bedtime Affirmations:
I celebrate my focus and achievements of today
I let go of the mistakes and misses.
I am thankful for the love I received today.
I am deserving of this peaceful, reinvigorating sleep.
I close this day with a grateful, open heart and a clear mind for tomorrow.
That’s my evening meditation, my closure for every day. And since starting, it’s helped me recognize the good and begin each new day feeling rested and ready. I grew up saying an evening prayer before bed, and looking back it served the same purpose. Whatever feels best for you – meditation, prayer, song, journaling – I wholeheartedly believe everyone deserves to end their day on a high note.
