The leaves have turned all shades of gold and brown, the morning air feels crisp and cold, and boots are the go to shoe of the day. It’s officially Coat Season, and this year I have a few tried and true winter coats I wear every year, plus a few new winter coats I’m excited to add to the “Keep Me Warm” rotation. All my Winter Coats are wallet friendly, figure flattering, and versatile to wear almost anywhere – work, weekends, holiday parties, and everything in between.

8 Best Winter Coats for Women (2020)
The Olive Green Coat
Olive Green, Forest Green, Dark Green – this color has forever been a Winter favorite of mine, regardless of the runway trends. This year Olive Green is loved by runway designers and It Girls everywhere, which means there are more Olive Green coats to shop at every price than ever before. From long wool coats like the one I’m wearing all season long to sleek puffer jackets, there’s the perfect Olive Green coat for everyone this Winter.
The Teddy Coat
The Teddy Coat continues to reign supreme this season, going on 3+ years as the textured coat everyone needs in their closet this Winter. I have a brown Teddy coat and a shorter ivory Teddy jacket I purchased last year (both under $50!) and I still love wearing them this season for with black cigarette pants, classic white tshirts, silk Camí slip dresses and everything in between.
The Whiskey Brown Coat
This rich warm brown shade has taken the fashion world by storm this season. I love this deeper neutral hue in all things outerwear- my Teddy coat is in this whiskey brown color, long wool coats look showstopping, and suede jackets never looked cooler. Whiskey Brown looks lovely against denim, timeless white, black, deep olive green, navy, and warm winter whites.
The Animal Print Coat
Wild Thing, you make my heart sing. Animal print anything is a YES in my closet, especially when it comes to winter coats. My cozy leopard print coat comes out every Winter, and this year I’m crushing on all the new animal print coats – leopard print puffer jackets, animal print pea coats, and more. As for outfits, the little black dress (LBD), our favorite weekend jeans and cozy turtleneck, that vintage concert tee, a polished white button down shirt – animal print makes any outfit instantly chic.
The Sherpa & Shearling Coat
The definition of cozy is faux sherpa and shearling anything. Stay warm and look cool in one of this season’s winter coats with a dash of sherpa lining, or the faux shearling Moto jacket that I dream of every Winter. Sherpa lined coats can week more weekend worthy, but I’ve been wearing mine with my favorite black/dark gray dresses and it looks perfectly office appropriate.
The Buffalo Plaid Coat
Check, please. The iconic buffalo check plaid gets better every year, and never goes out of style. I picked up my red and black buffalo check Teddy coat last year on super sale and am so happy to see even more cool buffalo plaid coats this year. I love this coat the most with denim anything, but it cleans up nice with sleek midi dresses, camis, and turtlenecks too.
The Long (Maxi) Coat
Go long this Winter with a statement Winter coat in a maxi length. This is one of the new favorites in my Winter Coat lineup – I love the long and slimming length, simple tie belt, and cozy fabric. I wear my long maxi coat with breezy black dresses, lived in denim with tshirts or cashmere sweaters, and tailored wool trousers with menswear inspired striped shirts.
The Classic Camel Coat
The One. If we could only invest in one new Winter coat, I always recommend adding the iconic camel coat to any Winter coat lineup (assuming everyone has a classic black coat). There’s a reason the camel coat is as beloved as it is for all these years – it’s elegant, timeless, versatile, and flattering on everyone. From toasty turtlenecks to classy cocktail dresses to power work suits and everything in between, this is the grand dame of Winter Coats, period.
