“so why did you ask me to come alone? are you in love with me?”
– daisy buchanan

one of my most adored novels of all time – f. scott fitzgerald’s fantastic “the great gatsby,” – is being remade by the whimsical baz luhrmann for a 2012 release. rumors have been flying about the speculated all star cast, with guesses of leo dicaprio as gatsby and tobey maguire as nick carraway. and the coveted role of daisy? well, with names like natalie portman, blake lively, michelle williams, scarlett johannson, keira knightley and carey mulligan– it was anyone’s guess who would it would be…

until now!!
news broke today that it is the lovely & amazing carey mulligan who has claimed the prized role of daisy.

“i was thrilled to pick up the phone an hour ago to the young Oscar-nominated british actress carey mulligan and say to her: ‘hello, daisy buchanan,’” said luhrmann.

and since i have loved her in her roles in pride & prejudice & an education, i am beyond thrilled…and counting down the days until opening night!

I love Carey Mulligan – she’s gorgeous, particularly working her current Audrey Hepburn hair style.

Just discovered your blog – would love it if you stopped by mine sometime.

wow…so looking forward to this with a mix of trepidation and delight. as long as we go in with no expectations of anything we should be safe! totally agree with ms portman as jordan and i do think that ms mulligan will be a lovely daisy…but mia farrow’s (heck, redford’s too) are some big ol’ satin pumps (or wingtips) to fill!

I am over the moon about this film, and the addition of Ms Mulligan has me practically itching with excitement! I think she’ll make a wonderful daisy, and that Natalie Portman would play a terrific Jordan! As for the men, I don’t even know where to start on my dream cast!

The news about her latest role is so big right now. I think it’s super cute the way they told her she got the part.

emily – michelle was my top pick too {have you seen dick? it’s seriously the funniest movie ever!} but carey was a close 2nd. i am semi-afraid of watching it too…with every novel i adore, i am always going in with sky high expectations!

ooof. I love her too- An Education was one of my favorite movies- but I was hoping for Natalie or Michelle Williams as our Daisy. I L-O-V-E the novel so it will be with an eye of scrutiny that we watch the movie, I’m sure. xo
