handle with care

” the letter we all love to receive is one that carries so much of the writer’s personality that she seems to be sitting beside us, looking at us directly and talking just as she really would, could she have come on a magic carpet, instead of sending her proxy in ink-made characters on mere paper.”

during my final years at art school, i spent my free time working in san francisco’s charming kate spade boutique. during those unforgettable two years, i was immersed in kate & andy’s extraordinary style and formed friendships that i cherish to this very day.
one of my fondest memories during my kate spade days was the daily letter writing. for every purchase, birthday, upcoming trunk show, new collection arrival or private sale, we crafted a personalized handwritten note to our wonderful clients. in the midst of the email era, we were preserving a quickly diminishing art.
for this reason, one of my goals is to infuse this art into my life once more. holidays {christmas, valentine’s day, birthdays} are the easiest and most obvious reasons to pull out the paper and pen. but it is those “just because” moments that carry the most meaning. these are the letters i am determined to write….like grace kelly, with her thoughtful note to her dear friend, miss greta garbo.

and to motivate me and pull me away from my gmail inbox, investing in an array of sweet stationary is a must. below are a few of the delightful designers that define my paperie portfolio. perhaps you will fall in love with them too….and write a letter to your family or favorite friend to tell them about it 🙂
