Shopping for bedding can be a daunting task – a seemingly endless list of brands, patterns, fabrics, thread counts, and colors to choose from, it’s hard to compare and determine the best options without doing our bedding research first. And when it comes to the best premium bedding options, the price ranges wildly.
Our Best Premium Bedding Pick: Charter Club Damask Bedding Collection:
The Charter Club Damask Bedding Collection created exclusively for Macy’s has been our go to bedding for years – we love the chic Damask stripe design for our duvet cover and king shams, and the fact that it has 100% American grown Supima Cotton is a must for us. We love the look of an all white bed, so that’s our pick, but there are gorgeous neutrals, deep hues, and rich colors in the collection as well.
I’ve done my research, tested, and invested in my own fair share of premium bedding over the years – from luxury brands to department store favorites – and today I’m going to share the 4 best premium bedding essentials to invest in, and my favorite premium bedding collection that we’ve been using for over 15 years.
4 Best Premium Bedding Essentials
1. High Thread Count Sheet Set: Let’s start with the definition of thread count. Thread count is defined by the number of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch. Typically, the higher the thread count, the softer the sheet, and the more durable over time. Quality sheets range anywhere from 200 to 800, and there are some that go as high as 1,000+. But high thread counts don’t always deem a bedding set high quality – thread counts can be manipulated by poor thread qualities and construction methods. As a rule of thumb, I always look for bedding with thread counts higher than 200, but don’t seek out anything higher than 800. The sheet set should include a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and 2 pillow shams. Since we have a king pillow top mattress, I also look for deep pocket fitted sheets so they don’t slip off.
2. High Thread Count Duvet Cover: Duvet covers are easy ways to update the look of your bed seasonally. We have classic white, but also love the seasonal shades like blush pink or pale aquamarine blue for Spring and Summer, or a deep navy for Fall. Good quality duvet covers will have corner ties to anchor your duvet insert evenly inside your duvet cover, so it doesn’t get lopsided.
3. High Thread Count Extra Pillow Shams: We have 4 king sized pillows and the pillow shams sold separately from the sheet set offer a more decorative look on our bed.
4. Bed Skirt: Bed skirts complete the look of any bed, hiding the underside of the bed to make it look more polished.
