our family christmas tree adventure
Holiday traditions. The first weekend post Thanksgiving, our little family (including our 12 year old corgi, Napoleon!) bundles up for our annual Christmas Tree adventure. We don’t chop down our own tree (a gal can dream, though), we simply visit a sweet San Francisco middle school parking lot that houses hundreds of noble firs of every shape and size. The hubs walks alongside lil’ T while me and our pup pick our sweet mini wreath. And after we find our perfectly imperfect, funny tree, we spend the rest of the afternoon running, chasing, sliding, squealing, and giggling at the baseball field and playground next door.
Then the best kind of fun happens. At twilight, our fireplace roars to life, spiced cider fills our mugs, our favorite holiday tunes fill the home, and so starts the tree decorating party! For our tree, we sprinkle and string and dot it with silly, whimsical ornaments that make us smile – ice skating moose, glittering polar bears, sassy flamingos, portly snowmen, and a beaming Flounder (yep, that Little Mermaid Flounder!) on top. Most are felt or some other natural material, since we ditched our glass decorations when T was born.
