“every day is a new opportunity. you can build on yesterday’s success or put its failures behind and start over again. that’s the way life is, with a new game every day, and that’s the way baseball is.” – bob feller
it’s ten o’clock in the evening and two hours ago, our san francisco giants won game 5 and became the world series champs. sure, they have the filthiest pitching rotation in the league but the rest of the guys? abandoned, almost retired, underrated…and downright weird! they’re a band of misfits, the bad news bears of our time…and a gutsy, relentless, clutch group of ball players no one believed could do it. but, dad, they had something no one else had – chemistry, electricity and a little bit of magic. it was written in the stars.
and as the team raced onto the field, the city of san francisco erupted with cheers, “ohmygod’s” and champagne and rob, nap & i danced and hugged around our home…my mind flashed to you. the weekly trips to the batting cages with lil bro d, the after dinner giants games on tv, that vintage giants hat that you wore every day and your fierce, endless love of the game that you instilled in us.
this is the day we were wishing for.
and i just hope you got to watch the game, too. 🙂
i love you to pieces, dad.
and i miss you every day.
