Today’s post is – no doubt – my favorite recap post. In the whole universe. Why? Because this was the part in our North Shore Hawaii beach wedding where the intimate ceremony and our hand written beach wedding vows – that we created in our hearts and inscribed on paper – were spoken for the first and only time.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate the love and wedding
of Rob and Sylvia.
This is a sacred right. An ancient right.
And from what I gather….a wedding many of you have been hoping for – for a very long time.” 🙂
“Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.
A good marriage must be created.
In the art of marriage: the little things are the big things.
It’s never being too old to hold hands.
It’s the comfortable silences.
It’s remembering to say “I love you” at least once a day.
It’s standing together facing the world.
It’s forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It’s not expecting the husband to wear a halo or the wife to have wings
of an angel.
It’s having the capacity to forgive and forget. It is giving each other
an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It’s establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal,
dependence is mutual, and the obligation is reciprocal.
It’s not only marrying the best partner, it’s being the best partner.”
“As Sylvia and Rob prepare to join their lives, it is important to understand
that everyone present has played a part in this story of their love, shaping
these two who are standing in front of us today. And, you will continue to play
a vital role in their continuing future. So, we are here not only to witness
their vows to each other, but to bestow upon them our blessing.”
Our Hawaii Beach Wedding Vows:
Rob’s Wedding Vows:
“To My Dearest Sylvia,
I was never a man of faith.
I never had good reason to believe in love, soulmates or angels.
Those were things reserved for other people’s stories,
people luckier than me.
Then there was you.”
“You showed up and a light turned on.
You smiled and everything changed.
Suddenly, I wanted to spend the rest of my life
making you laugh.”
“To that spirited girl in the white polar bear sweater
that woke me up on Christmas morning ten years ago,
thank you for taking the leap.”
“To my best friend in the perfect dress
standing on the beach with me today,
thank you for never leaving my side.
I know you could have had it easier.
I know I don’t deserve you.
But, after all these years, you still choose me.
Either you’re really crazy,
or maybe, just maybe,
angels really do exist, and one was sent to guard me.
Sent to teach me how to love without conditions,
to live for others, and to always
find the silver linings.”
I can’t see your wings, but I know they are there.
On my darkest days, when all I want to do is
fall to my knees and give up, I know you wrap me in them and
give me a reason to stand.
You give me a reason to try my best.
I love you because you make me a better man.
You’ve given me reason to have faith.
You’ve made me a believer.
I do believe in everlasting love, soulmates and angels.
I do believe we were meant to be together, forever.
You are the best person I know.
Make me the luckiest man alive and be my wife.”
In return, I promise…
I promise to make you laugh every day.
I promise it will never get old.
I promise you’ll never regret it.
And I promise, our best days are still ahead.
My Wedding Vows:
“Friends, family, I want to tell you a secret.
I dreamed of marrying this man when I first I met him.
He was dashing, forever laughing, always eating and a fantastic dancer.
And I was bright eyed, fearlessly living, always dreaming, and seeking new adventures.
But that was at the very beginning.”
“When our story began, he showed me he was a boy with big dreams, an incredible talent and a circle of friends who loved him very much.
And I showed him I was a girl with great ambition, a tight knit family and someone who was figuring out who she wanted to be.
As we moved further along, he revealed his great, big heart
And I gave him mine in return.
When we arrived at each obstacle, he proved his capacity to learn, grow and change
to be the best version of himself.
And I offered to be brave, steady and patient through every struggle.”
“And now, almost 11 years later,
our story has led us here,
where I get to marry not just the witty, dashing boy,
but the passionate, fiercely loving man who inspires me each day
to be the best version of my self. “
From the first day, to the last day,
I vow to be your Giving Tree.
I will use my laughter to wash away your worry
I will use my arms to protect you from harm
I will use my voice to give your mind peace
I will use my ears to keep your dreams and wishes
I will use my hands to heal you from illness
I will use my imagination to dream for us and our future
And I will use my great, big, heart to fill our home with love…..forever.
I love you, with all my heart and soul.”
