star crossed

“life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose.”
– tennessee williams

hello friends,

this past weekend, while i was dancing the days away with my favorite guy and fantastic friends, i marveled at how some of my most cherished friendships have blossomed from the most unpredictable places – flatmates in london, my first boss @ kate spade, dance class and this crazy little thing called the blogosphere. and while some of my most wonderful pals i have known since adolescence, there are a rare few that have crossed my path in recent memory. and the second we collided, we carried on together as if we had known each other for ages.

so to celebrate these wonderful bonds that keep us going when the sky is falling, our hearts are breaking and our goals are a little unclear, i asked one of my “star crossed” girlfriends and talented blogger, miss november grey, to guest blog about her fondest friendship memories and places that have carried her through her zany, LA life. she is a gem and i heart her to bits. i hope you do too 🙂

tell us your favorite friend moment:

november grey:

my favorite moment, when i know a girl is going to be a true friend, is when we have that “you should be my family” “cut from the same cloth” “where have you been?!” a-ha moment!  when i met my best friend for over a decade, we were doing a shakespeare play together, and i immediately just fell in love with her.  she was so funny, sweet and just made me laugh… she made me feel at home, like i could trust her with my heart.  there was none of that mean-girl, jealous, competition stuff.  i invited her over for a movie rental, and a girls night sleepover and we stayed up all night just talking and cracking each other up.  and even though she moved across the country years ago, we still talk on the phone almost every day. a best friend is like finding a soul mate.

favorite spots…

for the catch up sunday brunches

november grey:
my backyard.
i love to make mimosa’s, serve fresh smelly cheese, fruit, croissants, and just talk the mid-morning away.
plus, i live by the beach, so it’s super easy to just meander a few blocks over to the water when we feel like it.

for the bad days
{with lots of fun and too many cocktails}

november grey:
a hot spot in hollywood.
flirting with a cute bartender never hurt anybody!
and ordering a “filthy dirty martini” with some shiny lipgloss and a pouty face – just might get you one for free.

for celebrating
{with lots of bubbly}

november grey:

i’m notorious for making my friends dress up, no matter what the occasion. it’s just so much fun and makes everyone feel sexy and feminine and fabulous.  (see here) so anywhere, really!  as long as we’re wearing cocktail dresses!

and for a much needed weekend getaway

    This was a fantastic post to come back to after two weeks of almost no contact with my best friend. I’ll be sure to pass this on to her for her reading pleasure and so she knows that from now on, cocktail dresses are the rule!
