How do you Mother’s Day?

When I was growing up, Mother’s Day traditions looked like yummy gourmet brunches in timeless Nob Hill hotels, glittery cards, and Mother’s Day gifts of new perfumes, silk scarves, or pretty sweaters for my mama.

Now that I’m a mom, my ideal Mother’s Day has evolved, even in these past 4 years. My perfect Mother’s Day would be a silly morning with my family, reading a homemade card by our 4 year old little dude, T, and reminiscing about all the mama memories that have kept my heart full. The hubs knows my favorite flowers (quirky tropicals, giant roses and peonies, with a dash of unruly wildflowers) and has them delivered with my favorite caramel popcorn. And then, they send me off for a day of me time — whatever I want to do that I rarely get to do because of mom life, work life, and home life.

These ME Mother’s Day gifts have been something I look forward to every year — it ranks up there with Christmas, it’s that awesome. The first year, I ventured off for a spa manicure and pedicure. Last year, I had the most amazing Thai Massage (we had just returned from our Japan & Thailand adventure where Thai massages cost $5 (!!!) ) and stopped by my favorite ice cream shop.

Finally, the other awesome thing about these ME Mother’s Day gifts — no cooking, cleaning, working of any kind. This is literally the only work-free Me day, every year.

On the Mother’s Day gifts front, according to my Love Languages test results, Acts of Service, Words of Affirmation, and Physical Touch are high value for me. So that means lots of cuddles, hugs, and kisses, homemade “I Love You Mama” cards, and a day of pampering are the best ways to show me that my loved ones care about me.

But there will always be a physical gift, sometimes small and sometimes a little more splashy. I still shop for my own mom’s Mother’s Day gifts every year and it gets tougher every year! Lately, my go to gift spot is JCPenney, for a few reasons — the Sephora inside JcPenney (GENIUS…and dangerous!), the wallet friendly accessories, and the impressive range of home gifts (I see you, copper Kitchenaid mixer).

This year, while I was shopping for my Mother’s Day gifts, I found the cutest Mother’s Day outfit for me — this off the shoulder embroidered top and soft tie shorts outfit I’m wearing here.

So in honor of all things Mother’s Day, here are my favorite, wallet friendly Mother’s Day gifts and outfit picks from JCPenney. There are so many good things at too good to be true prices (aka #SoWorthIt)….definitely have some fun exploring all these and more.

Thats so funny; Acts of Service is my love language too! Which explains why days of getting pampered (aka no cooking, cleaning, working) are my most favorite 🙂
My mom calls Mother’s Day ME Day and we literally do anything she wants. It could be as simple as a sushi lunch – our favorite mother/daughter tradition – or having a spa day at home. Her love language is definitely quality time so anything that involves us spending time together is her ideal ME Day!
I hope you have a fabulous ME Mother’s Day! Can’t wait to hear how you celebrated this year 🙂

You are spot on – being a mom completely changes the way I feel about mothers day’! There is nothing better than getting a hand drawn card from your kiddo to make you feel like a super mom (and flowers and caramel corn from the hubs doesn’t hurt either)!

I adore this outfit on you too!
