sweet songs & a small beach wedding

“music is what feelings sound like.”

it’s time for some fun stuff – picking the songs for our beach ceremony!

we have an afternoon wedding and, in true form, want to have some tunes playing while our favorite people arrive. we’ll probably need 4-5 songs and i would love your suggestions! so far, all we know is the last song before the processional begins will be this oldie but goodie from the cure, “friday i’m in love.”  we’ve heard this song literally a million times and we still feel warm and fuzzy every time it plays. 🙂

the processional song is a tricky thing for non-traditional brides like yours truly. the music, ideally, should reflect us and our L-O-V-E. but there are SOOOO many to choose from!

contender #1: coldplay’s acoustic version of “yellow” {swoon}

contender #2:
the hopelessly romantic “falling in love at a coffee shop” by landon pigg.
if there’s one thing rob and i have known since the day we got engaged, it’s the song i wanted to walk down the aisle to. it’s a melody that has a special place in our hearts…lighthearted, dreamy and oh-so-full-of-love, the la’s “there she goes.” i’ll just have to learn to walk at a slooow and steady pace instead of sprinting down the beach to my favorite guy {it’ll be hard to resist!}

for our recessional song, we wanted something more upbeat to get our friends and fam excited for the “tasty eats, potent spirits and reckless merriment” to follow. the winner? “dreams,” by the cranberries. our goal is to have a glass of something good in the hands of our guests by the end of this song…..and let the festivities begin!

now it’s your turn, friends! what sweet songs are you dreaming up for your special day? and if any of you have some favorites that i should use for our prelude music, i’d love your recommendations!

friends, your sweet thoughts and inspiring comments are the bright spot of my day. please make the jump, hang out and share what’s on your mind. 🙂

    Thank you so much for those great music suggestions! I am just right now looking for the songs for our small beach wedding in two weeks…and it is not that easy to find wedding music that is now all stereotypical and cheesy. 🙂 THANK YOU!

  3. Hmmm…I love Coldplay but the Falling in Love one is pretty romantic too!

    I L-O-V-E the There She Goes for you to walk into! Awesome!

    If you are having a reception where you are announce the bridal party – we walked into U2’s Beautiful Day.

    Some of my other my favorite songs are:
    Bright Eyes – First Day of My Life
    Rabbit – Pea
    Jillian Edwards – Go Together
    Jillian Edwards – June & July
    Actually her whole album – Galaxies & Such is awesome.

  4. Falling in love at a coffee shop! Such a sweet song!

    And if we could have had this amazing beauty, we would have: Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole Somewhere Over The Rainbow

  7. Oh Sylvie, I absolutely adore your musical choices! I admit, I always feel bad for brides who chose really traditional music (with doesn’t necessarily reflect who they are or say what they mean), so I love that you’re picking the music that means the most to you!

    I have a not-so-secret dream of walking down the aisle to Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, first movement. It’s so stunning, and actually harkens back to something that John said in the first weeks that we met: that he wanted to conduct the string orchestra at my wedding, unless he was busy doing something else that day. Swoon!
